Winter walks

Happy New Year to you all

It was lovely to be back home on Ithaca over the Christmas holidays; so tranquil. The sound of the flowing rivers to the old water mill and down to Frikes is very calming and is always hard to remember in the heat of Summer when we are running out of water. Lovely to be working on the land, pruning trees and catching up with friends without pressure.

Many of you will now have seen my photos of two magnificent walks on Ithaca over the Christmas holidays – see facebook and instagram.

We walked on the path to the Mills at Exoghi, finally finding the trig point and walked the path to the Milos on the peninsula of Raxi – thanks to the local community for opening the path all the way. This walk has now been added to my programme. It is a day time walk from the local mini market in Raxi/Kioni to the Milos on a hand carved out path that tells the truth of the struggle and toil of Ithacans who farmed the area of Agrotiri to feed themselves and their families; walking in their footsteps their stories unfold and their voices echo through the ancient olive groves, wheat terraces, ruined huts, the Mills, Sternas and lime stone walls.  Magnificent views of the sea and surrounding Islands make this walk enchanting. Great for those who want a little more challenging walk than my two evening walks or for those returnees who are always asking for something new; it is truly special. We will finish for a drink at the traditional and very special mini market.

More details to follow but the Mills walk – above – will be on Mondays at Stavros/Kalyvia walk on Tuesday evenings and the Cultural walk – exploring the myth of Odysseus on Thursdays – all walks can be booked as private tours. All groups are kept small with a maximum number of ten for the evening walks and 8 for the day time Mills walk in Kioni/Raxi.

See walks page for further details and updates.

I look forward to meeting you this Summer for this or one of my evening themed walks.
