Homer’s School Ithaca Greece

After twenty years living in Ithaca, I am unable to return this year to guide groups on my Farmer’s walk and around Homer’s school. I hope to be back next year. For those of you that are able to visit the Island, I have a storytelling brochure or recording  for your visit to Homer’s School. Paths have been cleared and marked so it is far easier for you to enjoy ancient paths and the magic of the Island on foot on your own and feel the experience for yourselves, taking your own time, rhythm and space. The site of Homer’s school is accessible, there are alternative paths and walks of different lengths.

If you email me your requirements, or just phone me: 00 44  (0) 7950690234, I will devise a suggested route for you and send you a storytelling, living history brochure to bring the magic of the story to live whilst you are at the site. The cost for help with a walk, weaved to your cloth, and the storytelling brochure which includes some farming and local culture history £10, includes a free service for advice on any other walks you would like to do on your visit to Ithaca Greece 2020. Alternatively have a look at  a poetic and intelligent  documentary by Simon Armitage BBC four – GODS AND MONSTERS really tells the story form Troy to the Palace and he brings the Palace to life and puts it in context on his final leg of his journey, retracing the adventures of Odysseus, all the way to Ithaca and Homer’s School. Really worth a watch before you visit. He also wrote a poetic adaptation of “The Odyssey” which I found a great read as well as “The Penelopiad” by Magaret Atwood, which is a hoot.

Movement Walk

Walking helps with posture, arthritis, joint pain and depression. Synthesizing functional movement – movement that suits and adapts to your body “there is no such thing as a perfect pose only your pose”, experience some gentle restorative and freeing non judgmental Yoga and strengthening Pilates, as we walk.

After walking and getting the body warm, stop in a tranquil place for some standing postures, stretching, breathing and mindfulness. Classes adapted to your needs and abilities and will ease out aches and pains, release and strengthen the body and mind in a fun and safe way. These classes are for women only. They are not exclusive to any age group but are particularly suitable for over 50’s.

Writing walks.

Walking, seeing and hearing and mindfully being in nature gives us time for our senses to settle, ground and open to myth, story and the poetry of ancient land. After walking there is time to settle and explore some structured “nature writing” exercises to release the authentic voice of you as a writer/poet/storyteller who is essentially connected to the natural landscape.

Where: Ashdown Forest are open to all – men and women, all levels.

When: July and August – Thursdays – 9. am

Open to all levels. Maximum 6 participants so that we can social distance in maximum groups of six. Just bring pen, pencil and notepad and warm clothing and perhaps a small mat to sit on.

Class times and dates will be announced soon and of course will change and be weather dependent

No deposit required book through my contact page/ e mail. Pay after the class, by invoice. – Greek style.
